Birmingham Fixed Gear

It’s not about the bike; it’s about the ride.

Red fixed with riser bars

Spotted in New Street today

I wonder who the owner is…

I was too busy delivering some tings to HSBC to leave a flyer on the bike, and it was gone by the time I went back :(

  1. You’re talking to Thom, yeah?

By the way it’s illegal to ride with no front brake.

  2. Hi i am indeed the guy with the donhue. I thought the idea of this website was to be friendly to people who ride fixed gears?
Just because i wear skinny jeans and need glasses as i am short sighted does’nt mean i can’t ride a bike. The guy from ideal was really friendly when i saw him and graham seemed quite pleased when he learnt that i was starting riding so to be honest whoever you people are who have a problem with me maybe you should’nt be so quick to judge. Also if you’re wondering why you don’t see me riding around birmingham its because i live in London where i ride my bike confidently everyday without brakes and not wobbling around as you suggest.

  5. Fixup, I think the mentality among the fashionable folk is that it is more important to “be” the person with the fashionable bike than to actually “do” the things that people with bikes generally do, like ride them. Being-seen-to-do rather than actually doing is why Myspace was created duh!

  6. I don’t understand all this bollocks about “I want to ride my bike, but I need to get fit first”… I’ve heard loads of people say it recently… what are they on about?! Get fit before you can ride a bike? YOU GET FIT BY RIDING A BIKE!!!!

  7. it is indeed Dean, as I used to teach him! He has been wearing spray on jeans for 3 years+ now. The tash and spex are more recent additions to his repertoire.

Kieran built the bike for him… and tis tasty indeed.

Dean said he fancied a ride with the fix up ladies sometime, but needs to get fit first. Maybe loosen them jeans around the gusset too!

  11. Shamim, my girlfriend works in the vintage shop and shes told me there is a dean who rides fixed there. never met him though. I saw a guy on raddlebarn road, last friday walking with his fixed, blue bike with drop bars on my way to band practice around 8ish. is that anyone here?

  13. Fashion monkeys wobbling around on fixed gears all over the place, saw about 5 when I was covering for Lee on Thursday. Even saw a faux-fixed gear which was a singlespeed cobbled together with only one brake on bullhorns. The only person who looked like they might be on a bike for reasons other than it is horribly and painfully fashionable was the legend that is the topless moustachioed man on the yellow track bike – two brakes, about 100 gear inches and calves chiselled in granite, he could easily snap every fakenger in two between his manly thighs. He’s pretty old school too since I used to see him in the summer of 2006 when i first started at Network and fashionistas were still getting lifts to the Custard Factory with their mums. Dan, what bike shop you work at?

  14. Ironic moustache & big glasses sounds like a fella called dean who Im told works at the vintage clothes shop in the custard factory.

Was he wearing the tightest jeans in the world? – Therein lies the answer.
